GUEST POST-CROCHET TABLET CASE WITH MALLOO

I have always loved taking my crochet with me wherever I go, at coffee shops, trips and visits to friends. And because I don't own a fancy phone, you know, the one you can actually take pictures that will be visible and don't hurt your eye sight, my ipad mini always comes with me. For that reason I needed a tablet cover that will protect my precious tool and will look pretty at the same time.
This case is made with the ipad mini in mind, but it will fit any 7 inch tablet out there. The stitch has a nice texture but it can also stretch a bit to cover minor differences in dimensions.
I am very fond of the combination of pink and grey but you can use any two contrasting colors of your choice. Let's jump into the details!
Materials
Yarn: Sport weight cotton yarn (I used Scheepjes in Corundum Ruby and Crystal Quartz)
Hook: US E/ 3.5 mm and US I/ 5.5 mm
Yardage: 100-110 m (109-120 yds) in main color and 35-45 m (38-49 yds) in contrasting color
Gauge: 14 st and 15 rows is 4 inches in pattern

Abbreviations
Fsc= foundation single crochet
sl st= slip stitch
st= stitch
ch= chain
sc= single crochet
dc= double crochet
MR= magic ring
Fhdc= foundation half double crochet
hdc= half double crochet
MC= main color (grey)
CC= contrasting color (pink)
sk= skip
Note: The first stitch of the round is placed in the same stitch as the slip stitch, unless it is stated otherwise.
Pattern
With 5.5 mm crochet and MC. Leave long tail to sew the bottom at the end and begin with:
R1: Fsc 36, sl st to join, ch 1 (36)
R2: * sc in first st, dc in next st * repeat from * to * around, sl st to join, ch 1 (36)
R3: * dc in first st, sc in next st * repeat from * to * around, sl st to join, ch 1 (36)
R4-31: repeat rounds 2 and 3 (36)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Flower
With 5.5 mm crochet hook and CC.
R1: MR, 20 dc in ring, sl st to join, ch 2
R2: * dc in first st, ch 2, dc in next st *, repeat from * to * around, sl st to join, sl st in next dc, sl st in ch 2 space, ch 2
R3: * (2 dc, ch2, 2 dc) * all in ch2-space of the previous round. Repeat from * to * around, sl st in first dc to join, sl st in next dc, sl st in ch2-space, ch 1
R4: * 8 dc, all in ch2-space of previous round, sk next 2 dc, sc in the space that is formed between the skipped dc's and the next 2 dc *. Repeat from * to * around. In the last sc of the round I try to catch the ch 1 of the beginning in the sc in order to give a nice finished touch to the flower.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Strip
With 3.5 mm crochet hook and CC.
R1: Fhdc 70, sl st to join, ch 1 (70)
R2: hdc in third loop only (also known as camel stitch) in each st around, sl st to join,
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Assembly
Turn the main piece inside out and thread your needle. Sew the bottom of the foundation row first and then sew the bottom of the finished case. I prefer to whip stitch under both loops of the foundation row but you can choose which method you like best for sewing.
Turn the piece inside out, so the right side is showing. Place the flower on the center of the left side, half on the front and half on the back and sew it on.
Place the strip about 3,5 cm (1.5 inches) from the right side and sew only in the back side of the cover as shown in the photo.
