Tanya asked me if I could make something for Valentine’s Day and the first thing that crossed my mind was a hot water bottle cover because it’s something me and my hubby use (and fight over) on our movie nights!

Tanya asked me if I could make something for Valentine’s Day and the first thing that crossed my mind was a hot water bottle cover because it’s something me and my hubby use (and fight over) on our movie nights!
So here’s the pattern for a standard sized hot water bottle. I used the half double crochet stitch (hdc) and a 4.5mm hook.
Round 1: Make 4 hdc in 4th chain from hook, hdc in the next 18 sts, make 5 hdc in the next st. Do not turn, continue at the other side of the chain. Hdc in the next 18 sts. Join with a sl st in top of chain 2. (46)
Round 2: ch 2 (counts as hdc) , make 2 hdc in same st, hdc in next 22 sts, make 3 hdc in next st, hdc in the next 22 sts. Join with a sl st in top of chain 2. (50)
Round 3: ch 2, make 2 hdc in same st, hdc in next 24 sts, make 3 hdc in next st, hdc in the next 24 sts. Join with a sl st in top of chain 2. (54)
Round 4: ch 2. Hdc in every st around. Sl st in top of chain 2 (54)
Round 5 – 29: Repeat round 4 (54)
Round 30: Ch 2, hdc in the next 24 sts, hdc2tog, hdc in the next 25 sts, hdc2tog. Sl st in top of chain 2. (52)
Round 31: Ch 2, hdc in the next 23 sts, hdc2tog, hdc in the next 24 sts, hdc2tog. Sl st in top of chain 2. (50)
Round 32: Ch 2, hdc in the next 7 sts, hdc2tog, *hdc in the next 8 sts, hdc2tog* repeat * 3 more times. Sl st in top of chain 2. (45)
Round 34: Ch 2, hdc in the next 2 sts, hdc2tog, *hdc in the next 3 sts, hdc2tog* repeat * 7 more times. Sl st in top of chain 2. (36)
Round 35: Ch 2, hdc in the next 3 sts, hdc2tog, *hdc in the next 4 sts, hdc2tog* repeat * 4 more times. Sl st in top of chain 2. (30)
Round 36: Finish with a single crochet in every st around. Bind off.
For the heart there are many beautiful things you can make. I used this pattern but feel free to add anything you like, buttons flowers etc.

Round 31: Ch 2, hdc in the next 23 sts, hdc2tog, hdc in the next 24 sts, hdc2tog. Sl st in top of chain 2. (50)
Round 32: Ch 2, hdc in the next 7 sts, hdc2tog, *hdc in the next 8 sts, hdc2tog* repeat * 3 more times. Sl st in top of chain 2. (45)
Round 34: Ch 2, hdc in the next 2 sts, hdc2tog, *hdc in the next 3 sts, hdc2tog* repeat * 7 more times. Sl st in top of chain 2. (36)
Round 35: Ch 2, hdc in the next 3 sts, hdc2tog, *hdc in the next 4 sts, hdc2tog* repeat * 4 more times. Sl st in top of chain 2. (30)
