Amigurumi Horse
Chinese New Year is quite a popular holiday! What I like most is that each year an animal of the Chinese calendar is associated with their holiday! So 2014 is perceived as the Year of the Horse! I couldn't resist and attempted to make this little guy plus I hadn't posted any amigurumi for quite a while now! He's blue, small and has got a long mane! :) He looks a bit funny, yet so cute and I really loved making him!
Materials:
3.5mm (E/4) crochet hook
yarn in blue (or any color you like) & white
12mm amigurumi eyes
embroidery thread for nose
Pattern
Head:
With white and 3.5mm (E/4) crochet hook
R1: Ch 2 then make 6 sc in second ch from hook (6)
R2: 2 sc in each stitch around (12)
R3: 1 sc , inc, repeat 6 times (18)
R4: 2 sc, inc, repeat 6 times (24)
R5: 3 sc, inc, repeat 6 times (30)
R6:sc around (30)
Change to blue yarn
R7-9 sc around (30)
R10: 8sc, dec, repeat 3 times (27)
R11: sc around (27)
R12: 7sc, dec, repeat 3 times (24)
R13: sc around (24)
Start to stuff.
R14: 6sc, dec, repeat 3 times (21)
R15: sc around (21)
R16: 5sc, dec, repeat 3 times (18)
R17: sc around (18)
R18: 4sc, dec, repeat 3 times (15)
R19: 3sc, dec, repeat 3 times (12)
R20: 2sc, dec, repeat 3 times (9)
Continue to stuff.
R21: 1 sc, dec, repeat 3 times (6)
R22: dec. repeat 3 times (3)
Fasten off. Attach eyes between R14-15.
Body:
With blue and 3.5mm (E/4) crochet hook
R1: Ch 2 then make 6 sc in second ch from hook (6)
R2: 2 sc in each stitch around (12)
R3: 1 sc , inc, repeat 6 times (18)
R4:8 sc around (18)
Start to stuff.
R9:4sc, dec, repeat 3 times (15)
R10: 3sc, dec, repeat 3 times (12)
R11: 2sc, dec, repeat 3 times (9)
Continue to stuff.
R12: 1 sc, dec, repeat 3 times (6)
R13: dec. repeat 3 times (3)
Fasten off and sew on lower part of head (see above pictures for reference)
Legs: (make 4)
With white and 3.5mm (E/4) crochet hook
R1: Ch 2 then make 3 sc in second ch from hook (3)
R2: 2 sc in each stitch around (6)
R3: 1 sc , inc, repeat 6 times (9)
Change to blue
R4-8: sc around (6)
Fasten off and stuff. Sew to lower part of body.
Ears:
With blue and 3.5mm (E/4) crochet hook
R1: Ch 2 then make 3 sc in second ch from hook (3)
R2: 2 sc in each stitch around (6)
R3: 1 sc , inc, repeat 6 times (9)
R4: sc around (9)
Fasten off. Fold in half and attach to head.
Nose: Using black embroidery thread sew on two little x for the nose!
Mane:Cut some yarn in white! Remember to cut your yarn a bit longer! You can always trim your mane afterwards. I used different color and another amigurumi to demonstrate the technique! You will follow the exact same guidelines to make the mane!
Grab a smaller hook (I used a 2.5 mm (C/1). Fold your yarn strand in the middle and insert it under your stitch.
Using your hook grab the yarn and pull it through the existing loop on your hook.
Done!
Following the exact same procedure add hair to your amigurumi!
Tail: Using 3 strands of white yarn together attach the yarn to the lower back of the body, and fold the three pieces together. That's it!
